I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I acknowledge the need to silence the infernal music continually circling my mind
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: spending the day much as usual - I have a kind of music autism so I have to remind myself to listen to it at the best of times - a no visual stimulation day would be far more of a challenge for me
Leah Gordon
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: i have become repulsed by music. it no longer interests me. no longer excites me.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: making no effort to hear music and thinking about how i can find a way to appreciate music somehow
Survey of Society
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I love music.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: hearing only the aching silence that lurks beneath the cruddy radio 2 MOR with which I am plagued by my work colleagues. Maybe the cold breath of an M62 east wind will whistle, and drown out all that mogadon pop.
Mark the Spark
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: have you ever driven a long distance exhausting your cd collection, and come to a point were you turn the radio off and reval in the complete silence?
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Listening to the natural sounds of everyday life, a baby lauphing, a bird singing, rain
Al Leyva
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: unless you lock yourself away in a padded cell or live on a desert island,it is virtually impossible.
Deppo
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: resistance is funky.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: actively resisting the impulse to listen to the music i cannot help hearing in my daily activities.

21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Music in its common mode as ubiquitous background sound loses its potency, its ability to delight. By shutting it down for a day, it can return with some restored luster.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I heard about NO MUSIC DAY on an NPR interview today, Nov 20, and decided on the spot to observe it as best I can. The interviewer missed the point when she asked 'should I wish you happy NO MUSIC DAY?' No, you should not. You should say 'happy St Cecilia day', and recognize the no music fast as a way to purify oneself for the return of music.
Landen Bain
21/11/2007
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I'll be explaining to the people in my office who listen to Heart FM all day why No Music Day exists then I'm having a meeting with a printer about the artwork for Das Land Ohne Musik (The Land Without Music), a live recording of a show by in Birmingham by Einstellung. The title was inspired by the ideas behind No Music Day.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I love al kinds of music so much that one day of "NO MUSIC DAY" will make me appreciate it even more
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I will be observing NO MUSIC DAY
Joseph Paulic
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: This forum is a good place to recall a story. The first two times I saw people wearing the Sony Walkman(TM), they were walking through buildings at MIT, so I assumed they were on self-guided tours of the school, because I had seen a similar device at a museum. The third time I saw someone walking wearing a Walkman, they were outside walking away from the campus, so I assumed they were lost.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I won’t observe No Music Day in particular. I play trumpet every day.
Dave
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I wrote about it here; http://aaru-tuesday.blogspot.com/2007/11/shipping-forecast.html In short; because I think Tricia Sullivan was right about how listening to music is an act that lacks courage. She says "we wouldn't dare make sound in our own right", that we're "we're totally cut off from it except as consumers" - it's powerful stuff but it's dead to us until we make sound ourselves, regardless of outside judgements. There's an irony in following someone's words about not following someone's music, but even following No Music Day is a following. I hope it makes me a more understanding listener and creator along the way, but that's not why I'm doing it.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Listening to autumn, hoping for a storm, leaving a window open and singing from it - making sound with voice and hands as I please, hopefully without beat or language, maybe not.
Thene
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I do not think it is possible- I say this because everything is music; Speech, traffic, your heartbeat, everything. If you take a close listen to everything, you can find a rhythm or a beat (Though it might not be to obvious). No matter where you go there will be music, regardless of whether or not it\'s made by man or nature.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Listening to the hardest, most obscene metal I can find and cracking it.
Bryce
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: it's the greatest invention ever!!!
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: dedicating it to PRINCE (or the sign formerly known as whatever).
Blahonga
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: My husband and I are singers and our whole family loves and thrives on music. Enjoyment of and expression through music are part of being human. But, I\'m sure we do take it for granted. We even have to learn to ignore it because of the way the media permeate our lives. Our first child is named Cecilia, and I think this is a great way to draw more attention to the feast day of the patron saint of music. It\'s like a fast before a holiday.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Not turning on music or the television while I am at home or in the car with my small children.
claire
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: This is stupid. Music WILL be played and there is nothing anybody can do about it. Why exclude it for even a day...POINTLESS
Geroge Markwannoer
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I heard about this project earlier today and agree with many of the points that were made. I hope to honor the artists and musicians by increasing my respect for music through deprivation. I honestly can't remember any span of time more than three hours without music. This will be a huge challenge for me.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: leaving my ipod and CDs at home, listening to talk radio, staying away from the TV and asking my friends to partisapate at least in my presence. I will also be atempting to go the full 24 hours with NO MUSIC.
Kelly Eitniear
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Just as fasts make one appreciate abundance of food, a fast of music should make one appreciate the abundance of music that is now available to us.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Trying to convince my coworkers to turn off the radio, who will then call me a stupid hippie and a fag and most likely ignore me.
pyrop
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I will try it to see what I think about on the drive to and from work. It will be interesting to see now many times I have to stop myself from humming or singing.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I will be attempting to observe No Music Day by not listening to CDs on the way to and from work. Maybe some talk radio. No music playing on the computer at school or at home. I just heard about it today, so no music during group time for my class.
Esmeralda
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: these "social experiments" don't redefine anything unless you're an idiot who leaves personal perspective up to anyone with a cryptic website and unclear motives. They just waste time and detract attention away from real issues.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: doing what I always do, listen to as much music as possible.
Luke Henley
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: not, because i am a music major and i have to do stuff for class tommorow for grades. other than that though, i will try to not listen to any music. i kind of do that anyways sometimes though.

21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: of these three reasons 1. I've already stuffed it up 2. Music is my life 3. And I wrote a beautiful nocturne this morning on my beloved piano. Perhaps this is because of the little amount of music which is happening on this day that maybe now there is enough room for beautiful new tunes to be thought of. Interesting.
Toby Alexander
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: sometimes it feels right and exciting to be out of comfortable territory. Now that No Music Day is finite and limited to only 3 more times (including the next 23 hours), I've got to take the opportunity while I still can and participate in this grand idea. I am also observing No Music Day because I feel it is my moral obligation to culture. For music and myself.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: not playing any music for myself or others (and missing it). I'll even stop whistling, humming, trying to sing, finding rhythms in my walk, and even tapping, if I can catch myself.
Todd Steponick
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Originally I wanted to meet a girl instead of practicing ;-) Anyway, I am tired of terrorized by notes and chords all the way I am getting around. Silence make the meaning of music and vica versa. Nowadays it is only music - no silence. What do we do not want to hear by overriding by recordings playing all day? There is too much music in my head contstantly playing, I wish there were real silence someday. I go to my psychiatrist today :-)
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Postponing the practice of my band, not listening any music at all.
Ferenc Kudasz
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: It will remind me how important conversation, silence and music really are.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Not playing any music, even when I am driving this evening and listening to BBC Radio Scotland.
[email protected]
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: The spirit and tradition of music as a medium between people is being killed by commercialism. First we had Sonny Bono getting copyright extended; next we'll have the Beatles and Rolling Stones somehow stopping their songs entering the Public domain in the near future. It's getting sick. Imagine if the same attitude had been prevalent in prior centuries? We'd be paying royalties every time we sang our kids a nursery rhyme!
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Not having the radio on in the car and listening to a FREE audiobook instead on my MP3.
Alan
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Music, as sound, has become as ubiquitous to the everyday passage of modern life as the billboard, or air freshener, and risks loosing it's identity as an artform. When you are drowning in something it's best to try and absorb as little of it as possible.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Listening instead to an audio book of Beckett's "Molloy" at work/college. I bought it over a year ago but owing to impatience and that desire for an instant fix, haven't done so yet.
Seanán Oliver Manfred Kerr
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Everyone you meet, the children in the street are swayin' to the rhythm, there's somethin' movin' in them. There's no place to hide, so, why even try? Can't you hear it coming your way, it's here to stay. Music in our walk, music when we talk. It's really something magic, to lose it would be tragic. Can't you feel the sound movin' through the ground? Music makes the world go around. You can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Take the cold from snow, tell the trees, don't grow, tell the wind, don't blow, 'cause it's easier. No, you can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Take the spark from love, make the rain fall up 'cause that's easier to do. Movin' with the wind since the world began, the beat is gonna getcha, beat is gonna getcha. Music for the blues, for your dancin' shoes, there's music in the way that we kiss, you can't resist. Movin' through the trees, buzzin' with the bees, the sound is gettin' louder, sound is gettin' louder. Music when we play, when we kneel to pray. There's music in the sound of the wind. You can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Take the heat from flame, try not feeling pain, though you try in vain it's much easier. No, you can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Change the master plan, take the hope from man 'cause that's easier to do. On the radio, on every TV show for each and every reason, each and every season. Music when we love for the moon above, music for the show of life that never ends. Music on a plane, music on a train, sailing in the ocean, music in the motion. Music in your car, at your local bar. There's music when you look at a star. You can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Take the heat from flame, try not feeling pain, though you try in vain it's much easier. No, you can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Change the master plan, take the hope from man 'cause that's easier to do. You can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Take the heat from flame, try not feeling pain, though you try in vain it's much easier. No, you can't stop the music, nobody can stop the music. Change the master plan, take the hope from man 'cause that's easier to do.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: ... there is no reason.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: my eyes and ears...
Sylvester
21/11/2007
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: posting this statement saying that I will refrain from music tomorrow. I might be kidding, but then again, who will find out?
Alex
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: It's really hard and forgot this morning, plus I've just started a job at Polydor so there's music everywhere, plus I had this really good song going round my head so I had to listen to it on the way to work! I'm weak! Sorry Bill! Bring back the KLF! If you do I'll do No Music Day Properly next year!
Edd
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I am because it means a conscious recognition of deliberate avoidance - deliberate NO - deliberate not today - knowingly without - and with doing this allows a fallow head time - a quiet - and in the quiet i fill it up with what would be good to hear - and so far (it's been 4 hours since i got up) i can think of NOTHING musical that i'd want to listen to. A bell maybe - just one ring of a small copper bell - that resounds between massive mountains some where on the north west of scotland - or further north and more colder. Quietly in my fallow head. what moer reason would someone want? tell me i dare you....

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: music has become like McDonalds. Pre-wrapped, packaged, glossy and inedible. Every band has an agenda, every A&R; man has a plan. It's no longer a back story turning into a success, it's a success that needs a back story to promote it, whether penniless Sandi Thom's basement concerts being advertised by one of the largest music PR companies in the world, or Keith Allen's daughter becoming famous through Myspace. It's not just what we hear, it's how we hear. Apple have gone from imacs to ibooks to ipods and iphones, it's not just a mechanism to listen, it's a lifestyle choice, style above substance, design for those who can't think for themselves, and who want to be sheep. Looks and the lifestyle, but a lifestyle with barriers, a computer you can't build yourself, an mp3 player that plays Apple-only music files that you can't convert for other players, or a phone you can't unlock? ireject.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: playing John Cage's 4′33″ on a loop.
Rob
21/11/2007
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: How do we stop the birds from singing in the dawn? The sea playing its Shanti on the shore? The wind whistling wildly from summits to sonnets? Every day is a endless dance with a soundtrack provided by the rhythm of a pounding, beating heart...........
neil jones

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I won't be dictated to on the only thing that can release us from the confines of rules. Music and art are the total antithesis of what the word 'no' stands for! Who's with me? The Anti-no-music freedom fighters party starts here!!!
Kid Calamity
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Imagine a world without music. Then remember how lucky we are to live in a world crammed full of music. Some it may be great, some may be crap, but all of it is unique.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: not listening to my iPods, Stereo or Radio for the day. I'm not sure I can switch off the music in my head though.
Simon Carr
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: ...............I WAS GOING TO OBSERVE IT BUT I'VE FAILED ALREADY, WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO THE SOUND OF BIRDS SINGING, DAMN THEM!
Steven Macphee
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: as a man once said - 'Fasting makes you appreciate' - Mohammed McPherson-Abba-Abdul-Arab Strap, circa 2005.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: listening to the best bits of Peter Cook and Chris Morris discuss evolution and what it takes to make the perfect Sunday afternoon.
Robert Burns
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Other than unconsciousness (even then I cant be sure there's none in the background) I can't honestly remember the last time I went a long period without music. Will it make me appreciate it more? Crave it? Maybe nothing at all. Who knows. In a time when advertisers make you feel the odd-one-out for not listening to music AT ALL TIMES, (look at every single ad. You cant even buy a phone without "never mind whether you get a signal, this new phone holds 8 squillion mp3's!" type messages. I wonder if we would all listen to as much music as we do if it wasn't for the first ipod ad?? Its going into meltdown), it seems an intriguing thing to do. Even if you did it for a couple of hours, and it made you think, then you have to take your hat off to BD...
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Turning off the work radio, resisting the urge to fire up Ableton Live...
Ian Jackson
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: It is a great topic for discussion.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Annie Lennox was a thorn in my side in the shower I got up this morning and intended to observe no music day. I put on the radio in the shower and - WHOAH haud on - Virgin are nae observing the nae music day, and there's Annie Lennox gan "Whoooooo ", I think she is a braw quine wi a great voice, so I listened to half of the track as a compromise, she has become the thorn in my side by her song "Thorn in my side ". After that I turned onto BBC Radio Scotland and am pleased they are thoroughly getting intae the hale shennanigans. I read the manifesto and it didnae say onything aboot drums, BUT, I HAVE FITTED SILENT MESH HEADS TO SOME DRUMS AND PUT ON SOME CYMBAL DAMPENERS . I will dress as a Dalek in tribute to Ford Timelord, cheers Biz.

21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I have come to take music for granted, and I love it far too much to ever let that happen again.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: leaving the radio and the television off, by not allowing myself to whistle or hum or sing songs to myself, by letting the guitars and the drum kit and the Tascam accumulate one day's worth of dust, and by longing for the morning of the 22nd and the sweet crackle of a stylus dropping on that carefully-chosen first record after the fast.

21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I'm unable to observe no music day. Even though it sounds like an interesting idea, music is in my head 24/7 even if I'm not actually, physically playing it! I can't stop it. I do think that music means less to people these days - people don't have a relationship with music, its just something they download to fill their ipods. Maybe people consume music and are surrounded by music more than ever before, but, paradoxically, music means less to people. I don't think NO MUSIC DAY helps the matter in any way, though. The idea is good, but flawed - sounds too self-indulgent to me. We should have an ONLY MUSIC DAY, where people would do nothing but listening to and playing music. No work, no rush hour traffic, no fighting, no war, no buying music - just music, pure and simple. That'd be better.
Ivy
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I am / am not observing no music day becasue I will be at home all day and able to control any music I do or do not listen to.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I will still play music but won't listen to it. This may involve unplugging / switching off amplifiers or turning the volume down. I am unsure if this constitutes me observing or not observing No Music Day.
Mark Silver
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: "..of all the wonderful things he does" - ach, man.......
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: mid-night tonight.
Robert Burns
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I have seen no reason for it. It seems o me to be an attempt to be virally famous. Now I know that someone wants to call it "No Music Day", I'm off to put on some Sigur Ros, REALLY FUCKING LOUD.
Jamie Jones
21/11/2007

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I did not know baout this, but I am not sure becasue I will be singing to praise God and use music as a form of prayer. But I think its good, a day when you need to reflect on your self and life.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: listening to my music collection
Amarylys Whyte
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: because if I remove my earphones I will have to suffer the inane prattle of my retarded colleagues. This will upset the precarious equilibrium that balances me in the sphere of sanity and utility, indeed may tip me over the edge and cause me to hurt others (not myself - way too much amour-propre...) And I'm listening to Durutti Column not yer X-Factorized bollocks....So...Nah.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I will be NOT observing NO MUSIC DAY
dvzoop
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Because it is Wednesday. Because it is wounded. Because it is a net loss. Because it is cheerful. Because it is left of the Dunkin Donuts. Because it is smaller than a breadbox. Because it is nearly time for me to go and I am not packed yet. Because there is a light that never goes out.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: examining ramifications, contemplating motivations, observing obfuscations. There will be flowers, there will be trees, there will be beards, there will be transoms. Next there will be a moment of thoughtful contemplation. Finally, if nobody calls and nobody answers, news reports from the scene will be produced and distributed.
Joel Kelly
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I will defintely not be observing this so called day of inaction because: 1) I've never heard so much crap 2) Music is the one artform that unites people all around the world - are we not supposed to be interacting more in the 21st century 3)thise of us who wish to can filter out the good music from the crap - hey! it's all subjective... So far today - and it's not even lunchtime I've listened to the radio, 6 albums and 10 mp3s. Get a life people - make this TOTAL MUSIC DAY
Iain McQueen

21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I normally barrage myself with noise - and need to learn how to cope without it - and appreciate the silence (or white noise)
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: not actively listening to music all day. If it should passively creep in,... well, so be it.
eylan
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Bill's article resonated. I love music and can't imagine a life without it. BUT, there has never been so much of it and I think we're the poorer for it.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Resisting the urge to get my ipod out on the way home.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I don't need to stop breathing to realize the air around me is important. I enjoy the music I follow with out the baggage that jaded hipsters and wanna be demagogues self-righteously saddle themselves with to feel put upon. If you think the public is dumb for its tastes and real (read: your) is unappreciated, does it really automatically mean they are corrupted or wrong and you see the light? Would this have come about if the founders got to pick music all the music they encounter to their own taste, damn the rest, probably not. The tone of the participants is sadly not one of silent reverence to music, but pouty I don't my way so I'm gonna ignore you all.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Enjoying music as I always do and appreciating it with the same emotion I ever do.
Moe Finigan

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Playing muisic all day
Andrew Huggan
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Music poses like a poacher. It has become (for me anyway) too easy for new bands to jump on the bandwagon of what has went before. It looks like they have talent but not the perspective. They are doing it not living it.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I will observe no music day cos I am over-stimulated by jingles and rot music. Rot music is a facsimilie of what went before. All I can see these days is the posture of music.
Barry McCall
21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: it's fucking stupid

21/11/2007
I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: the RIAA are ****s. NMD should be used to download music from all the RIAA affiliated labels and all music lovers should specifically avoid paying legally for music. I'm not promoting piracy, just the downfall of greedy companies who won't listen to the consumer. PLEASE DO NOT ILLEGALLY DOWNLOAD MATERIAL FROM SMALL NAME LABELS OR UNSIGNED ARTISTS. SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC.
James Daniels

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: sometimes life is truer without a soundtrack. MTV is the opiate of the young folk like me.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: ignoring and plugging ears.

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Thanks for an entertaining day on Radio Scotland, it has never sounded so good, I am so glad at last that a major broadcaster is supporting one your ideas and particularly proud that it is here in your home country of Scotland. It almost makes the licence fee seem worthwhile, great to hear presenters out of thier comfort zone and not being abale to rely on music to fill time. I will not be listening to music today, as I work in the media and relish the thought of a day where we can take a break from the constant bombardment of a blatantly over commercialised product. It makes you wonder if the best has now past and we need to understand this and move on. Music, like art, has a place in our lives but why look at a badly painted picture all day, badly produced music is just the same a waste of time. Will I miss the music today....NO

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I live in music. Fasting is a great way to cultivate thankfulness, and tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I've had St. Cecilia's day on my calendar for years, but never really had a proper way to mark that observance. No Music Day seems like the right way to do it.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Avoiding music however I can. I won't hum (botched that momentarily before I caught myself), I won't sing, I won't play. The speakers will remain off. For the long drive tonight, a book on tape.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I think under different circumstances I would be observing NO MUSIC DAY, but the day is new (it's almost 7am and I've been up for almost two hours) and I have accidentally hummed "Rehab" and "Take Five", perhaps a Justified Ancients Of MuMu ode of how I shouldn't take five, but rather I should take what I want. Bad, I've already messed up my day. I do like the idea of going away from music, and then being "cleansed" with a reward after the full day is over. For now, I will try to see how long I can make it until... who knows.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I want my own ideas to surface. When you read a lot of Hemingway, you write like Hemingway. When you listen to a lot of Ryan Adams, you sound like Ryan Adams. I want to find my own voice.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Turning everything off. No headphones, no radio, no NPR, etc. Unfortunately, I'll be forced to listen to Christmas Music all day at my job. I'll try to ignore it, but it's pretty hard.

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Cutting off all sources of music to help me realize the importance of art and music in my life. America is cutting these programs out of schools and it is ignorant and ridiculous.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: a) I've only just heard about it, and b) Bill Drummond, one of my all-time musical heroes, drove to within five miles of my house to put up a No Music Day sign, and didn't call in for a coffee. Next year, though.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: oops, too late.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I just recived the new CD by The Necks and want to play it. I have also played Morton Feldman's sublime piano music which operates just above the threshold of 'silence' but in the spirit of the event (which I've just heard about!) I may give Cage's 4.33 a spin later on.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I will never fucking observe your faggot ass oppression of music. If you do indeed turn off all your music this day, you should just go ahead and toss all your cds, records, tapes, ipod in the trash or mail them to me and I'd be more then happy to keep our pass out all the music. I'd rather get raped in the ass by King Kong then go a day with out music. And on this day Nov. 21 2007 I will make sure to do nothing but play all of my favort music.ALL FUCKING DAY LONG. DEATH TO THE MUSIC OPPRESSER!!! Even the Amish play there donkeys today.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I only found out about it a few minutes ago. I think its a great idea, and I wish I'd known about it before I listened to my iPod for about an hour and played my flute.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: cringing at the utter rubbish that gets played on the majority of mainstream radio stations. studiously avoiding my school's music department (because judging by what I heard this morning they didn't know about it either).

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I deliberately take time off work, I deliberately take time away from alcohol, I deliberately take time away from news and the internet, why not try time away from music?
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Reading a more challenging sort of book than usual, in silence so I can really think about it properly (The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins).

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: We are so inundated with music (in the background of news broadcasts, in the market, while on hold on the phone) and so much of it is unremarkable drivel (can you hear me Brittney?) that when a truly great piece comes to our ears, we no longer her it. In short, we have become desensitized to it. So that I may be again be moved to tears by Loreena McKinnett, fired up by Led Zepplin or made to smile by Vivaldi, today I will not turn on any radios, leave the TV off, and not fire up the iPod. Tomorrow, I will again bask in the joy of having my soul stirred again by Beethoven and laugh my ass off to They Might Be Giants.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I want to have an overwhelming musical experience after my fast. I love music and I feel that this day will help me better understand the messages in Dylan's prose and hear better the energy Thom Yorke tries to propel.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: turning off the music at work, muting my computer, keeping the radio off, cooking without the tv on, keeping from singing or humming, trying to educate people so that they respect my activity.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I agree there are lot of noise everywhere, but there is more visual pollution and other noises. I would find a "No talking day" quite interesting. That would give you time for reflection.
I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: Just by being reminded of music by the No Music Day, I took the opportunity to find some new music, something which has made me very happy.

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I don't walk around with an MP3 Player. I do appreciate silence versus noise. I wrote about 'No Music Day' on 'Serge the Concierge' Here's the link http://www.sergetheconcierge.com/2007/11/sounds-of-silen.html I might or might not be playing music later today.
