I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: creating myself a proper homemade KLF shirt and pretending i'm the coolest person alive. kind of like i did some 11-12 years ago back in highschool, except it was a JAMs shirt. it is then and only then i will engage in the proper cuntiness associated with informing why my shirt is so much more esoteric than anything they can dream of, and when they ask to hear the music, oh when they ask i'll be delighted to tell them to sod off proper because there is no music for them today. today is the atonement before the great gluttenous have-at-it of hedonism that is contemporary pop music.

Music is with me 24/7 and I need to step back and listen to nature, so I can tell the difference between silence, music, and noise.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I think i WILL be observing NO MUSIC DAY because i am starting to see the obsession with music now that technology has changed so much, with all kinds of MP3 players, iPods, iTunes, and movies. Music is played constantly, and my brother can't concentrate on anything unless he has music playing. It's rediculous. Music does have its place, and it can be a lovely, beautiful thing, but i think that our world is idolizing it way too much. People fast from chocolate, TV, and candy, and those are all good things, so why can't we fast from music? Is that such a bad thing? Maybe we can learn what it is about music that we need to monitor. Unless you are forced to live without, you won't know what you really need.

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: making no effort of my own to create or play music. I will also try to avoid places where i know that there will be music playing. If i can't help but hear music playing by someone else's choice, i'm not going to get all frustrated or angry. I will just do the best that i can.

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I (am kinda) observing NO MUSIC DAY, except I am doing it for SEVEN DAYS, starting today, January 21 - Janaury 27. Why? For God. Laugh if you want, but I was asked at church to find the one thing I do daily, that I would be willing to give up for God, to see changes in my life and in the lives of those I love. The benefit of it being a personal sacrifice, since Christ sacrificed for me. I thought perhaps coffee! But I don't drink it everyday. So, it came to me. I live and breathe music. I sleep with it on and I drive to work and I listen at work and I dream to it. I had to choose either no music for a whole week or no emailing. Music will impact me. It already has. I began at midnight + 1 minute. It is now 12:25 and I found this site because of it. I hear every sound, every car, every dog bark. And I am suffering! But it will be worth it all. I know it. I just don't know how to get through it!

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: Unlike many others making statements, I am not observing no music day in order to better 'appreciate' music. i am avoiding it. I find people's obsession with music and musicians borders on the unhealthy. Someone else's music - your taste in music - has little bearing on who YOU are as a person. Musicians are worshipped and idolised, though they are often shallow, damaged people. Music is over-rated! Don't force your music on me wherever I go - it is often deeply irritating and not to my taste. If you want music, learn an instrument and try to make your own. Don't fill up your home with CDs and waste money on over-priced downloads. Only when there is silence can you confront yourself and the true nature of yourself - end your addiction and obsession with music before it is too late.

I will not listen to music, and avoid places where music is forced upon me (in commercial premises where it blares out at you whether you like it or not, in pubs, cafes, restaurants, bars and shops). I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I take for granted what music brings to my life and the power it has. I forget the joy I can derive from just singing, not to any audience in particular except myself. I take for granted the happiness the perfect tune can transfer to my entire being when it serendipitously comes next in the shuffle at the perfect moment. I believe it\'s necessary, in a world where more and more music is available free of monetary charge (whether legally or illegally), to know what value music holds for me.

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: I will be observing NO MUSIC DAY by renouncing, for a 24-hour period, my beloved iPod. I will not sing, I will not whistle, I will not hum. I will not nod my head to any music I may accidentally hear. I will leave my guitar and electric organ untouched. I will not attend concerts or listen to the radio in my car. I also will not dance.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I think it's a funny statement, especially in being so pointless. I have seen a lot of people get provoked by No Music Day, and I find that rather interesting. At some point, it's a rather bad sign not only being unable to live without music for a day, but also getting annoyed by someone suggesting it. Also, after one day's silence my favorite music sounds so much better.

However, I would like the opportunity to suggest several artists who should stay silent a lot longer than 24 hours.

Music can take you back to your first partner, to the day you moved out of your parents house, to the death of a loved one. Music plays an integral part of human nature and should be promoted. Not stopped.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I don't think anyone should be telling me when to stop listening to music. What a silly thing! And I must have music that day; I am a musician and I have to work. If I don't work I don't get paid. If I don't get paid I cannot pay my bills. If what people are suggesting is that we have music on but don't really pay attention I understand that problem. But I'd rather have noise abatement by telling people to stop honking horns, quiet those motorcycles that are so darn loud, and learn to listen.

I agree that there are some people who do not know how to take their headphones out of their ears. But I am not one of them, and I do like to choose to listen or not, and I choose both to equal degrees.

There is music everywhere--the grocery store, right now the ryhtmic sound of the dishwasher whooshing and washing is music itself.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: we live in a world in which music has become a sort of filler stimulus, buzzing away out of earphones and speakers throughout most of the day. Without music, the sounds that fill life in an industrialized society are largely unpleasant, so we have devised a level, predictable style of music that paves over this noise in a uniform and homogeneous way. Taking a break from this reminds me of the importance of real music, served up with no thought except to the enjoyment of creating or hearing it.

I will (or will not) be observing No Music Day by: avoiding or suppressing, as much as possible, my experience of music. For me, suppressing the ever-present music in my mental ear has been all but impossible. I have whistled a few times today, but stopped myself quickly. While I was in the shops with my earplugs in, I caught myself humming along to the song in my head -- grateful that I had managed to avoid the undesired Muzak but disappointed that I had moved my vocal cords. The music I usually choose for myself throughout the day -- on the train to work, from my PC during the day, or listening to records in the evening -- was easy to let go. Music blared by others was difficult to avoid, and the compromises I made throughout the day to escape hearing it have accented just how distasteful most commercial music really is: the few bars I\\\'ve heard today were vile, wretched dreck.

I am (or am not) observing No Music Day because: I believe a renewal is needed, a cleansing. As a musician I need a reboot, I need a day where I'm not being bombarded by melody, where I'm not analyzing rhythms. Tomorrow I can revel in the joy and beauty that is music, but today, silence is golden. It's also a matter of human reconnection, being forced to talk about something with other people that isn't involved with music. It also serves to prove the importance of music in all of our lives, without its enrichment for one day, we are more appriciative of its qualities when we return to its presence.
